Changing your Cloud Mac's Password

OakHost products allow you to connect to your Mac via a KVM Module, offering a variety of features that are inaccessible through regular remote access. This allows you to boot into recovery mode and reset your macOS password, if needed.

Option 1: Changing your password

If you are able to log in to your Mac and want to change the initial password, follow these steps:

  1. On the Mac, open the System Preferences app by clicking on the Apple icon in the menu bar.
  2. Navigate to Users & Groups and click the i icon next to your username.
  3. Click on Change... to update the password and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Restart your Mac to apply the changes.

caution

After changing your password, the initial login password displayed in the Customer Panel will no longer work. Use your new credentials to log in via Screen Sharing, VNC or KVM.

If you changed the user's display name, the username required to log in via Screen Sharing or VNC might remain customer.

Option 2: Resetting your password

If you forgot your login password, you need to boot into recovery mode to set a new password.

To boot into recovery mode, you will make use of the KVM Module assigned to your Mac.

  1. Sign in to the Customer Panel.
  2. Select the server you want to manage.
  3. Ensure your Mac is currently shut down.
  4. Wait up to a minute before executing the next step. It takes some time for the Mac to fully power down.
  5. Execute the [Force Power Off] action to trigger a long power button press. This will boot your Mac into recovery mode.
  6. Select the [Remote Access] tab and click [Open KVM Screen] to connect to your Mac.
  7. To continue into recovery mode, click on "Options".

note

Please note that we are not responsible in any way if you break the system using Recovery Mode. Please always ensure to return your Mac in working condition. Otherwise, we may need to charge a restore fee.
